To announce the start of our celebrations to commemorate Hawick RFCβs 150th anniversary, the club was delighted when Chris Rutterford, one of the UKβs most accomplished an innovative Mural artists, accepted our commission to produce a mural capable of invoking the memories of 150 years of rugby in the town.
Chrisβs interpretation is an outstanding and quite unique, depiction of two players in action, one from modern times, and the other of a 1873 vintage, together with our new 150th anniversary club crest. The club is indebted to Chris for all his hard work and vision.
The club felt it appropriate, and were delighted that Kevin Reid who played for the Greens a record 422 times, agreed to unveil this mural, which is now displayed on the gable end of the houses at the junction of Mansfield Crescent and Mansfield Road, on route to Mansfield Park. The club is indebted to Mr Jackie Gray, and Mr & Mrs Colin Blaikie for their kindness in agreeing to have the mural mounted on their wall. ππ
Tomorrow will see a further celebration of our anniversary, as two teams, from Hawick and Langholm, re-enact the very first game player in the town back in 1873. The game will be played to rules of the day, in clothing of the period. With a 2.30pm kickoff, please come along to support the teams, and enjoy the spectacle.
