105 years on from Armistice Day 1918 Hawick RFC were yesterday able to pay a lasting tribute to those young men from the Club who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the two Great Wars. A beautiful commemorative seat, commissioned by the club and made reality by the skilled craftsman’s hands hands of Bernie Armstrong was unveiled by captain Shawn Muir and Vice Captains Kirk Ford & Fraser Renwick.

Solemn tributes were paid to the fallen, firstly by ex President Ross Cameron and then by Reverend Michael Scouler who blessed the dedication. This was followed by a poignant musical rendition by Alan Brydon of his beautiful and emotive composition ‘A place in my heart’

Presiding over the service President Ian Landles then called for a minutes silence prior to kick off, a silence which was beautifully observed by players and supporters alike, as the young guard of honour joined the Hawick players, and the next generation stood arm in arm on the hill.

The seat, positioned as it is overlooking the hallowed turf of Mansfield Park, will remain as a lasting memories of those sadly last, and will allow future generations to sit in quiet contemplation and remember, while watching the current generation of Robbie Dyes as they continue to honour all those that have gone before. 💚🏉❤️
