The clubs important annual review into coaching and player development has been carried out this season by Hawick RFC Director of Rugby, Gary Muir, with the backing of the Club's Executive Committee.

What this ongoing review has highlighted is that it is of paramount importance for Hawick RFC to be able to retain and develop the skill set of current established players, while also developing and encouraging those young talented players coming through Hawick Force.

The decisions the club has taken in not renewing the contracts of Matty Douglas and Lewis Bertram, for next season, have been made with a view to exploring an alternative approach to these crucial areas

In regard to the making of this announcement, timing was always going to be difficult. However with the domestic season extending into May, in part due to the inter-district championship, the club wished for fairness and time to be given for all parties including the coaches, to plan for the future.

We hope that although understandably disappointed, Matty and Lewis will after considering matters, agree to continue in their coaching capacity until the end of the season, as they and the players compete for trophies on three fronts. This commences on Friday evening with Hawick’s Border League fixture against Melrose at Mansfield Park. The club continue to be grateful to both Matty and Lewis for the part they have played in the club's recent success.
