With Borderer Sarah Robertson winning selection for the GB Ladies hockey squad for the Paris olympics, it is interesting to note her family connection to the Green jersey!
Sarah’s great grandfather was Andra Bowie who served Hawick as a player, referee and administrator over a large number of years. He reportedly acquired 54 medals during a long playing career. Between 1919 and 1931 he appeared in 9 Melrose Sevens finals winning 6 and was a member of Hawick’s grand slam winning seven in 1927.
Her grandfather Jack Bowie was a member of a successful Hawick sevens squad in 1955 which also included a Melrose winners medal.Β
In the 15-a-side game, Sarah’s dad Paul appeared twice in the Green jersey while her uncle Michael made 52 appearances for Hawick.
Sarah who narrowly missed on the Rio olympics in 2016, won a bronze medal as part of the GB squad at the Tokyo games in 2020. She thoroughly deserved her selection for Paris 2024, and everyone connected with Hawick RFC would like to wish her and the squad the very best of success.Β
Sarah has won over outdoor 200 caps for Great Britain and Scotland
