The Hawick squad opened their ‘Kings of the Sevens’ seasons account at Peebles yesterday, facing off in Group D against JedForest and Selkirk.
In the first pool match after an even first half, Jedforest got the better of the Greens running out winners by 26-7.
In there second tie the Hawick lads tightened up their defence and started to play some clever rugby. With both sides giving their all, Hawick managed to keep their noses in front and take the win 26-22. Two fine tries by Charlie Welsh and a fine try saving tackle by Kirk Ford at the death, epitomised the spirit displayed by the whole squad. With Jed narrowly beating Selkirk in the last pool tie, they progressed to the semi-finals where they comfortably dispatched a spirited Orkney side, 40-10, only to be beaten 24-12 by Melrose in the final.
